Social control

It is a system of formal and informal measures in the community and to prevent deviant behavior. This is a set of tools by which a society or a social group guarantees (or tries to guarantee) the conformal behavior of its members.

Sanctions the society or group of people can be: formal is positive, i.e., stimulating approved behavior (rank, state awards, bonuses, promotion, etc.), the formal negative - a fine, arrest, dismissal, etc.

Sanctions can be informal and social reward (smile, praise), punishment (frown, threat), belief, or reassurance.

Finally, there may be such action of the society, as the reassessment of the norms. Then the actions considered deviant, be welcome or acceptable.

Degrees of compliance and penalties for their violation are distinguished: customs, manners, etiquette, mores, laws, taboos.
